As a Girl Scout of eleven years, I've found the Girl Scout experience to be foundational in teaching me important life skills, and helping me find opportunitie to serve communities around me. From serving on leadership committees to having been recently elected to represent over 40,000 Girl Scouts as a Board Member for Girl Scouts of Northern California, I look forward to continuing to grow as a leader and empowering others through my work.
Last November, I had the opportunity to interview Girl Scouts of Northern California CEO Mary-Jane Strom, where we discussed her vision for the organization while exploring creative cookie pairings.
Cupertino Council Delegate (2023-2024) : As a Council Delegate for the Cupertino Council, I participated in monthly meetings, representing ideas from girls in local troops to council leadership. During the Annual Delegate Meeting in 2024, I contributed to discussions that shaped council-wide decisions, collaborating with both adult leaders and fellow Girl Scout representatives.
Girl Scout Board Youth Representative (2026-2027): I was recently selected to serve as one of two Youth Participants on the Girl Scouts of Northern California Board, representing over 40,000 Girl Scouts. In this role, I am leading an initiative to implement after-school Girl Scout clubs, with the goal of increasing accessibility for high school students. As a Youth Board Participant, I am committed to expanding access, promoting diversity, and strengthening meaningful youth engagement across the organization.
Serving on the Lead the Way Committee over the past three years has been one of the most transformative parts of my Girl Scout experience. I joined the recreation committee in 9th grade, co-led it in 10th grade, and served as its sole lead in 11th grade. In this role, I directed the planning and execution of Friday and Saturday recreational activities at the conference, creating spaces for attendees to connect and build community. I also managed budgeting and tracked engagement throughout the event, gaining valuable experience in both leadership and program development.
Through Mom n’ Me, I had the unique opportunity to serve on both the youth and adult committees, acting as a bridge between the two. I worked to translate and advocate for youth perspectives within adult decision-making spaces, ensuring that ideas were accurately represented and thoughtfully considered. At the same time, I gained insight into the infrastructure behind planning a large-scale event, learning how effective communication and coordination shape its success.
